With arguably some of San Diego’s best waves, Black’s Beach can be found in the finest neighborhood of La Jolla. It is named after the Blacks family, who once owned a horse farm on the cliffs overlooking the beach.
Black’s beach is a well-known spot for surfers and bodyboarders for big winter swells, as well as students from nearby UCSD. However is quite dangerous for swimmers mainly because of stingrays.
Black’s was the first and only public nude beach in the USA for several years in the mid-70s. Nowadays nudity is prohibited by law in California, although the beach is frequented by those who prefer to enjoy the surf and sand in the buff.
Black’s Beach can be difficult to reach due to its location beneath the Torrey Pines bluffs. Access can be by walking from La Jolla Shores when the tide is enough low or descending the steep cliff path from above.

Black’s Beach offers the chance to enjoy an isolated and idyllic environment and perhaps even see sea lion pups who have come out of the water to warm themselves on the sand.
