Broadway Market: Hipster Mecca in East London

Broadway Market is Saturday’s hipster mecca in Hackney, with lots of moustachioed dandies and gamine women browsing the stalls.

Ranging from the classic to the exotic, various food stalls line the street running from London Fields to the Regent’s Canal. Spices, cheeses, breads, cured meats and wines plus mouth watering bakery stalls are all present. Look out for Butchies at the end of the street to taste a delicious deep fried free-range chicken in a buttermilk bun.

The market is also popular for its vintage clothing and new designer threads, arts and crafts. Note that only cash is accepted for payment at the stalls. If you need to withdraw money head to the Post Office where there is no commission fee.

The permanent shops and eateries are worth popping into as well. Quaint cafés, pubs, flower shops, art galleries and indie book shops are all situated along the street. Head to Tiosk if you want to be delighted by a Gyokuro green tea and a piece of chocolate-avocado cake whilst you glimpse your recently purchased book from The Broadway Bookshop.

Broadway Market also has a super vibrant vibe due to the live street bands and buskers playing on the crowded pavement. Jazz, folk and blues are some of the genres that can be enjoyed on a Saturday morning. Some of the bands are really talented!

Broadway Market is as much about seeking out fine food as it is about just letting your hair down and soaking up the atmosphere.
