India, colourful and vibrant, is a land as diverse as its people where everything can happen. Magnificient temples, palaces and forts are spread all over the country such as Mehrangarh, an historic monument situated 400 feet above the city of Jodhpur in Rajasthan.
Founded in the 15th century by the Rathore Rajputs, Mehrangarh refects the wealthy and glorious time of the Maharajas in India. The Fort from the outside is impressive, and certainly forbidding. Even supermodel Naomi Campbell has recently celebrated her boyfriend’s birthday at Mehrangarh in a two-day lavish stravaganza party.
Despite all the grandeur, the reality I found when I visited this place was a child who was forced to dance at the main gate of the Fort. The expression of his eyes says everything. Unfortunately this is the kind of life many children have to bear in India everyday. The other side of India.
