Cova d’en Xoroi – Sunset Bliss and Fun in Menorca

Perched like an eyrie in a beautiful cliff on the south coast of Menorca, Cova d’en Xoroi is an impressive natural cave steeped in mythology and washed by the sea.

Open every day May to end September, sunset is always primetime at Cova d’en Xoroi. The ultimate sundowner has to be watching the sunset while sipping a cocktail, accompanied by chillout beats and breathtaking sea views. DJs play everything from house to hippie grooves as the night wears on, in one the Balearics’ most atmospheric clubs, full of troglodyte nooks and crannies.

A fascinating mystery lies behind the cave’s name, some argue it’s a romantic fairytale while others say is true. The story is based on the life of a Turkish pirate called Xoroi, a shipwreck survivor, who upon reaching the shores of Menorca found shelter in the cave. Well hidden from prying eyes, Xoroi survived by stealing from the surrounding farmlands. It is on one of these furrowing trips that he fell in love with a local girl who was taken to the cave. Years later, the searching locals found the hideaway, the girl, Xoroi and their three children. Xoroi was cornered by the approaching angry mass and he and his eldest son dived into the foaming sea below. The girl and the remaining two children were taken back to the town of Alaior – where it is said that there are still descendants of Xoroi living today.

Different areas are spread in the venue from where one can contemplate the dawn, the sunset and the spell of the moon. In the establishment you could drink an aperitif in the morning for all ages, especially if you accompanied with kids (day session), relaxing sunsets listening to ambient down music recommended from 18 years on (sunset session) and dance at night only for adults (disco session).

By night, the cave is transformed as locals and holidaymakers flock from all over Menorca to party the night away. With visiting international and regular DJs playing the latest and best club sounds, regular and special themed evenings and live music performances, a visit to Cova d’en Xoroi is not to be missed for an amazing night out.

Sa Cova d’en Xoroi is one of Menorca’s most memorable pleasures that can’t fail to impress. A must for all travelers who are exploring the wildest of the Balearic Islands.
